Christopher J. Dy, MD, MPH, FACS, FAOA, FAAOS, accepted the Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting.

The Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award recognizes an investigator younger than 40 years old who has contributed outstanding research in musculoskeletal disease or injury. Dy, an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, received the award for his research on brachial plexus injuries and patients’ quality of life, according to a press release.

“Our research is really shifting the emphasis to have a broader perspective, not just looking at surgeon grading, but what matters to patients,” Dy said in the release. “Patients have no idea how bad [a brachial plexus injury] can be, as it is impossible to conceptualize; however, we can use the educational guide to coach patients through the process. Eventually, I would love to demonstrate the usefulness of the guide so we can involve care navigators and coaches to help support patients through this injury.”
